Each egg only closes with its matching base. Twelve two-part eggs, each a different shape and colour — so a toddler gets an unmistakable physical signal when they've got it right, and no signal at all from an adult.

Why self-correcting matters this early

Between one and three a child is learning that things belong to categories. The critical part is finding out for themselves when a match is wrong — because a child corrected by an adult learns to check with the adult, while a child corrected by the object learns to check their own work. This does the second.

The twist-and-close action is also excellent grip practice, using the same wrist rotation needed later for handles, lids and pencils.
