What is a busy board?
A busy board (sometimes called a sensory or activity board) gathers the everyday fastenings a child is desperate to master — a zip, a shoelace, a seatbelt clip, a light switch — onto one safe surface. Instead of hearing "not yet," your toddler gets to practise buckling, threading and twisting as much as they like. It's a Montessori "practical life" idea in portable form.
What skills do busy boards teach?
Busy boards build the pincer grasp and hand strength children need for holding a pencil, the hand-eye coordination for feeding and dressing, and the problem-solving and focus that come from working a fastening until it clicks. What age is a busy board for?
